Blog assignment 2 - the story of stuff

My first impression when I saw the clip was: FFS not one of those Al Gore-wannabe vegetarians, who just blame everything on America, and thinks that the only problem is the economic system, which is according to them "forcing" people to buy new stuffs while they themselves spends every last penny on new Greenpeace jackets, and also thinks that if the companies would be more government controlled all environmental problem would be solved.

But after a while I realized that she was not one of those, but rather that she is fairly right in a lot of what she is saying, unlike many other environmental debaters. I must say that I'm pretty sick of all the environmental bullcrap and how journalists and commentators, who do not have a clue of what they’re talking about, competing in being most politically correct.

To tackle the environmental problem for real, I think it is time to stop engaging in projects such as “Earth Hour” and instead take decisions like increased support for nuclear power development.

  1. So I am not alone in my initial reaction to the clip. After the first reaction I also came to the conclusion that she knows what she is talking about. I happen to agree with you about nuclear power. It doesn't pollute near as much as some forms of energy production. Of course there is the waste but were getting better at dealing with that.

I think that to start with I also thought that I am again up for some boring 20 minutes on environmental talk.
I agree with your solution oriented approach. Nuclear energy and also some of the other renewable energy resources should be promoted.

  3. I agree with you that it's better to take action if you can, instead of just showing that you care and I'm also for nuclear development. I agree with you that Leonard is probably right in alot of what she is saying, but it is always important to show how the facts have been gathered. This is what I miss in her presentation.

  4. I agree with you that the climate shift isn't entirely built on our consumption. It's a very complex problem with a lot of different aspects. Politics sometimes don't have enough facts to be making statements on our environmental decisions. Like nuclear power for example. According to me it's the best power source we have at the moment therefore we should keep evolving it and not restrain the use of it.
